TELUS Community Board makes Challenge Course at Silver Lake Camp a reality
Thanks to the generosity of the TELUS Thompson Okanagan Community Board, children and youth attending Silver Lake Camp will benefit from a new Challenge Course Program.
In December, TELUS presented a cheque to the Silver Lake Forest Education Society for $8,000. The YMCA of Okanagan, who operates the camp on behalf of the Society, will install a series of high and low rope elements at Silver Lake Camp in the spring of 2013.
Camp has the power to transform lives. The Challenge Course Program will create an opportunity for kids of all ages to gain a sense of teamwork, camaraderie and confidence as they maneuver through the high and low rope stations, all ranging in levels of difficulty.
“At TELUS, we give where we live,” says Jim Henderson, Director, TELUS Thompson Okanagan Community Board. “We believe that in order to do well in business, we must do ‘good’ in the communities where we live, work and serve. That’s why when customers choose TELUS, their support directly impacts our ability to give back to our local communities. We are thrilled to help establish a Challenge Course program at Silver Lake Camp which will help contribute to the development of youth attending camp.”
“Silver Lake Camp relies on community support to ensure that the tradition of camping continues by providing the best quality experience possible. This significant contribution from TELUS will help us to continue growing an excellent outdoor education and activity program at Silver Lake Camp, one that will provide years of enjoyment to thousands of campers,” says Rhonda Zakala, Camp Manager.
