Donor Spotlight: Okanagan Kidscare
Okanagan Kidscare Invests in the Healthy and Wellness of Kids
Okanagan Kidscare is committed to improving the lives of kids in our community. Thanks to two donations of $10,000 kids attending both YMCA of Okanagan Child Care Centres and Silver Lake Camp more than 1,500 kids will benefit from healthy snacks and the adventure of a new high ropes course.
With the support of this donation, the YMCA of Okanagan Child Care centres will be preparing 45,240 healthy snacks for more than 300 children. Most overweight and obesity problems in childhood are caused by children eating too much and not exercising enough. Preschools and daycares play an important role in teaching a child good eating habits and how to live an active life. Active and healthy children learn better and develop healthy habits that can last their whole lives.
Also benefiting will be the 1,200 children and youth who attend Silver Lake Camp annually. Now they will experience the challenge and fun of a new high ropes course. Communication and trust in one another is vital on a ropes course. Children and youth will come away from this experience with higher self-esteem, greater self-confidence and friends to last a lifetime.
“Okanagan Kidscare believes deeply in putting the needs of kids first. By supporting organizations like the YMCA we are able to connect families to the resources they need to live better lives and reach their full potential.” Deb Bye, Okanagan Kids Care Board Member.
