Over the past year, Interior Savings, through their Community Investment Fund, has made it possible for the YMCA of Okanagan to purchase much needed play-based equipment for both their Family Play Time and Child Care programs, ensuring the healthy development of our community’s youngest members.

“Family Playtime is a free drop-in program at the Kelowna Family Y for children ages 0-6 that integrates socialization, learning and play opportunities, particularly for families facing vulnerabilities, in raising healthy children,” says Cassandra Thomas, Y Community Programs General Manager.

Also grateful for the donation is Danielle Miranda, General Manager of Child Care for the Y, stating, “Our terrific partners at Interior Savings are also helping us to improve four of our child care centres with the purchase of long-lasting outdoor educational materials and learning tools, extending the classrooms to create safe, natural playscapes for over 500 children each year. We truly couldn’t be more grateful for their commitment.”

Little Scholars (Okanagan College), Young Parents Program (Kelowna Secondary School), Queen’s Park (Penticton), and the new Dilworth Mountain Child Care Centre will all benefit from this investment in programming for children.

“Investments in our community are especially critical right now”, says Kathy Conway, CEO of Interior Savings. “2020 has been a difficult year, particularly for young families. We are inspired by the Y’s commitment and ingenuity as they adapt their programming to continue helping families while creating opportunities for children to grow, explore and thrive.  We are pleased to lend our support.”
