Missionwood Retirement Resort recently held a new fundraising event – a safe drive-through soup pick-up in time for Thanksgiving - raising $3,734 in support of the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.

“We normally host an annual Gift of Giving Turkey Luncheon in December to over 330 people, which won’t be possible this year,” said Corinne Ginther, Missionwood Marketing Director. “We know how impacted the YMCA has been due to the pandemic and we wanted to come up with a safe and innovative way to support their charitable work this year with local underprivileged children and youth. Our Chef Chad made hundreds of 1-litre containers of homemade turkey and pumpkin soup, which were pre-ordered by our residents and the community and picked-up on October 7th without people even getting out of their car.”

“The team at Missionwood Retirement Resort has been so incredibly caring, raising over $31,000 in support of the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign since 2014,” says Rhonda Zakala, YMCA VP Fund Development. “They went above and beyond in a very difficult year for many, even donating the leftover soup for our Young Parents Program.”

Over 20,000 children and youth participate annually in YMCA child care, camp, youth leadership and health programs. One in four of these children are able to participate because of the generosity of organizations like Regency Resorts.
