YMCA of Okanagan AGM welcomes new board members

The YMCA of Okanagan held its Annual General Meeting on April 23, 2019 at the Kelowna Family YMCA, where long-time staff and volunteers were recognized, and the 2019 Board of Directors were elected.

A highlight of the evening included the acknowledgement of outstanding volunteers who enable the YMCA to accomplish their charitable work. Courtney Lavoie was awarded The Jill Seibert Volunteer Award of Excellence; Elaina Moore received the Youth Volunteer of the Year, and Cindy Grochowich was named the Significant Contribution (Gift of Time) recipient. 

Recognition was also given to several employees who have dedicated 10 years of service to the YMCA of Okanagan in their various areas of speciality including Torrie Zimmerman, Aquatics Manager, Kelowna Family Y; Danielle Miranda, Senior Manager, Child Care; Michelle Moffatt, Health & Fitness Supervisor, Kelowna Family Y; Debbie Banerjee, Manager, Child Care; and Marla Cooney, Member Services, Kelowna Family Y.

YMCA of Okanagan’s Chief Executive Officer, Sharon Peterson highlighted notable achievements from 2018 including the highest membership ever for the Association, Small Steps for Big Changes program in partnership with the University of British Columbia, opening of Queens Park Child Care in Penticton, announcement of the new Dilworth Child Care and— and the YMCA of Okanagan Employee Recognition Program.

Directors serving current two-year terms include Board Chair, John Duff, Randy Schueler, Brea Lake, John Devitt and Deanne Taylor; Directors re-elected include Dave Bond, Rod Gibbings, Steven Pavelich, Judy Shoemaker, Sharon Varette, and Past Board Chair, Joni Metherell. Newly appointed Board Members are Amy Gopal and Steven Morrison.
