YMCA Playing to Learn Preschool now at Penticton's Queen's Park

Due to COVID-19 some of our regular programs and services may be on hold temporarily. Our pools will be reopening on August 10. Stay up to date on what is currently available within your YMCA and H2O centres on our COVID-19 Updates page

Queen’s Park YMCA Child Care Centre, which opened to the Penticton community in Spring of 2019, is now offering it’s proven Playing to Learn Preschool program for children ages 3 to 5.

This centre has been providing infant toddler care, 3-5 care and before and after school care throughout this past year, and their new preschool program will offer even more child care spaces for local families.

“We are thrilled to be launching our Playing to Learn Preschool program in Penticton,” says YMCA Child Care General Manager, Danielle Miranda. “A child’s early years set the foundation for their future. At the Y, we are committed to ensuring families have access to the tools they need to help their young ones thrive.”

And this preschool program truly is accessible for local families.

As a local charity, the Y is able to offer financial assistance, above and beyond government supports, for families who may otherwise struggle to afford the full cost of care. With these extra supports, families can access this program for as low as 35 dollars per month.

There are also full- and half-day options from two to five days a week, providing flexibility for families who work part time or for those who simply want to further prepare their child for kindergarten.

“We want to ensure every family, no matter their circumstance, can access high quality child care and preschool,” says Miranda. “Whether finances are a barrier, or it is difficult to find a preschool that fits into a busy schedule, we can help families find a solution that works for them.”

Queen’s Park YMCA Child Care Centre offers children large, open spaces to explore and play and a calming environment conducive to learning. With an emphasis on outdoor activity and natural playscapes as well as experienced, nurturing teachers, children are equipped with the tools they need to succeed.

The YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum prepares children for school and life-long achievement by nurturing their curiosity and development in the most natural way possible — through play. It is based on the latest research and evidence that shows play is the most effective way that children learn and gain new skills.

As the YMCA of Okanagan grows its programs and service offering in Penticton, there are also opportunities to join their team of Early Educators. If you are already in the field, or you are interested in joining the industry, the Y will help you begin and develop your career.
