On Sunday, May 1, hundreds of families and thousands of kids joined the Y and community partners for a day of healthy games, interactive entertainment, and learning at the YMCA’s 11th annual Healthy Kids Day at the Kelowna Family Y.

This was the first year the event has taken place in May rather than June, and the outcome was better than organizers could have imagined.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better event day,” says Healthy Kids Day Coordinator, Erica Hudson. “The weather was perfect and this year’s event was one of our best attended yet. Everywhere you looked there were kids running, climbing, laughing and crafting. We had some excellent activity stations as well, connecting families with local resources to live healthier year-round.”
YMCAs across Canada went loud for kids’ health on the same day (May 1) celebrating Healthy Kids Day. With one in three kids today struggling with their weight, Ys are taking a stand to urge Canadians to act as healthy role models for the next generation. Parents, siblings, community members, educational institutions, organizations and the government need to work together to combat this issue.
The YMCA of Okanagan would like to thank everyone who attended the event, along with sponsors Interior Savings, 99.9 SUNFM, Kelowna Capital News, and all other sponsors and participating partners for making such a successful event possible.
Year round, the Y offers programs, resources and financial support to individuals, families and seniors in the community. As a local charity devoted to the health and wellbeing of our community, the Y believes everyone should have access to resources and will never turn anyone away due to financial circumstances.
