At the YMCA of Southern Interior BC, we are committed to ensuring our community is water-safe and we need passionate people to help us achieve this goal. If you want to develop leadership skills and make a profound impact on a child’s life by providing them with vital water safety education, we want to hear from you.

Lifeguarding is not only one of the most impactful roles you can have, but it is also a lot of fun! Where else can you come to work in shorts and flip-flops? Whether you are looking for a great work environment, to take on a new challenge or build friendships that can last a lifetime, you will never regret becoming a lifeguard.

It is a job that can transition with you wherever life takes you. Aquatics staff get to interact with a variety of people, teach different age groups, and perform a diverse set of tasks. No one day looks the same.

In addition, lifeguards and instructors are in high demand. Choosing a job in aquatic recreation is a rewarding investment with year-round opportunities throughout the country. Aquatics staff make a huge impact in our community, as everyone gets the chance to teach valuable swim skills to children. Aquatic courses can be used for high school credits, and they can even help pay your way through university!

Learn how to get certified

Whether you are already a certified lifeguard, or you are simply starting out, there are opportunities for you at the Y.

As a local charity, the YMCA of Southern Interior BC is devoted to ensuring all programs and services are accessible to the community. The Y offers financial assistance for swim lessons to ensure families can afford this important life skill for their children, and each year every third-grade student in our local community is provided critical water safety skills for free thanks to generous donors and volunteers.
