What is your position/title and company, and what do you do there?

I am the President/Managing Partner at Wilson M. Beck Insurance. We started the company in 1997 with one employee so my duties back then included vacuuming and dusting the office! These days, with a great staff of 18 dedicated individuals, my role is focused on providing general oversight as well as managing client relationships.

What is your connection to the Y?

Like many others the health and fitness component of the YMCA is what first drew me to the association. Their community reach through their facilities and programs is very extensive. It was only after being approached about a Y Board opportunity did I realize all the Y offered. At that point I was hooked!

What do you enjoy most about your role as a Y Board Member?

To be able to provide leadership to our current suite of offerings but I’m also very excited to assist in creating a vision for what the YMCA will look like in the future.

What do you think are the biggest issues facing our community?

What a difference a year makes. These days dealing with COVID-19 is obviously at the forefront of everyone’s life but in addition to dealing with the pandemic we have significant issues ranging from mental health, physical well-being, homelessness, poverty and inclusivity.

How do you feel the Y helps those in need?

I think Y’s mandate that they don’t turn anyone away due to financial barriers says a lot. From the obvious physical fitness opportunities and related benefits, the Y’s program offerings support all stages of life and include child development, preventative health and disease management, youth engagement, afterschool enrichment, employment and mental health.

Why did you first choose to donate to the Y?

I’ve been a member of an annual golf tournament committee for the better part of 10 years. While previous charities of choice for our tournament all had great causes, we saw a lot of our proceeds distributed outside of our community. With the YMCA, all proceeds stay local and directly benefit families in need and in addition none of the money is spent on overhead/administration. In 2017, Wilson M. Beck became the tournament title sponsor and I’ve been personally and professionally supporting the YMCA’s charitable work ever since.

What are you looking forward to/planning for the future?

I’m most looking forward to getting through this pandemic and ensuring that the YMCA has an even stronger presence in our community. The YMCA would normally have been the charity of choice for several fundraising events that were cancelled because of COVID-19 and we are still recovering from pandemic-related program and facility closures. Our Golf Tournament Committee is eager to start planning and fundraising for next year’s event, scheduled for July 19, 2021.

Wilson M. Beck is pleased to extend a special house insurance discount for YMCA members and staff.
