YMCA Child Care

Raise healthy, resilient kids with support from YMCA Child Care. The Y offers early years care, Playing to Learn Preschool, before school care, after school care, and licensed camps.

The Child Care Labour Market Initiative is a group-based, full-time program (30 hours per week) consisting of 15 weeks of employability and occupational skills training, six weeks of on-the-job work experience with local employers and two weeks of follow-up support to prepare participants to work as Early Childhood Educator Assistants trained to work in both Daycare and Before and After school care settings in the Kelowna area.

Eligibility: Participants who are unemployed and are receiving Employment Insurance or have had Employment Insurance claim within the last five years may be eligible. Participants may also be eligible to receive employment supports of up to $300 per week for the duration of the project.

Program Dates: March 19 to August 10

Prerequisites:

  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector clearance
  • English test — a 20 minute online test
  • Doctor’s clearance that the participant is physically and mentally healthy to work with children
