We understand that even with the various government funding relief programs, some families and individuals may be struggling to pay for necessities. We want to provide some help to those in need.

The YMCA of Greater Vancouver (YGV) and the YMCA of Okanagan have established Staff Emergency Assistance Funds to help our staff members who are experiencing significant financial hardship during the pandemic.

  1. The YGV Staff Emergency Fund, generously funded by the Greater Vancouver YMCA Foundation and being offered to all BC YMCA employees, will provide one-time financial assistance up to $500 in support of essential needs. Priority will be placed on those employees who do not qualify for Employment Insurance (EI) or Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB).
  2. The YMCA of Okanagan Fund, funded by some amazing members who have chosen to donate their membership fees while our facilities are closed, as well as by the Y Senior Leadership Team, will also provide one-time financial support, and is available for those needing additional assistance.

Though it may be difficult for employees to request this type of assistance, we hope that those truly in need will reach out for help. All requests will be processed confidentially through our Human Resources Manager, Melaney Kothlow (melaney.kothlow@ymcaokanagan.ca). Employees without access to a computer may call Melaney directly to make the request at 250-317-7396.
