When I was 29 years old, I moved to Canada from Brazil with a dream of making a difference. It was a big life change; one that I was both scared and hopeful for. It meant leaving everyone I knew behind, finding a new home, and learning a new language.
I had no idea, at the time, what a positive impact that decision would have on my life.
After two years of cancelled events, the 15th Annual Cycle for Strong Kids is set to take place Sunday, May 29. The YMCA of Okanagan’s largest fundraiser of the year brings together hundreds of community members who are eager to ‘ride and raise’ so all local children and families have equal access to YMCA programs.
At the beginning of 2021, I was in the best shape of my life preparing to run a half marathon for my 60th birthday. Then everything changed drastically when I contracted COVID-19 and the virus impacted my cognitive abilities for the long term. Now a year later, as I continue to retrain my mind and body, the Y has become a vital part of my recovery.

The YMCA of Okanagan has named their new CEO to replace Sharon Peterson who is retiring from the role after 27 years of leadership.
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Allyson Graf, who has been employed by the YMCA of Okanagan since 1998 and most recently as Vice President, Community and Strategic Initiatives, will be the new President and CEO.
