YMCA strong kids campaign financial assistance

We don't turn anyone away.

YMCA donors and partners help make it possible for us to make sure everyone can participate in YMCA programs. If financial circumstances are limiting your ability to participate, you may be eligible for financial assistance. Families enrolled in YMCA Child Care programs can also apply for the Affordable Child Care Benefit.

Girl enjoying YMCA Summer Camps in Kelowna

We will be reopening our health and fitness centres at the end of June and we can’t wait to welcome our Y community members back. Learn more

Is your child ready to get their heart pumping and finally spend time with other kids their age? At the YMCA, we recognize the importance of getting active and being engaged during this time and we are developing all outdoor programming (in accordance with BC guidelines) in order to help kids get back to being kids.

Our modified weekly half-day camps will provide your child with an outdoor day camp experience with station activities that include physical activity, educational STEM challenges, arts and crafts and all your favorite activities with a twist, all with appropriate, realistic safety measures in mind.

Our Active Kids drop-in rec sessions will help your child reduce stress, get heart healthy and build confidence as our enthusiastic Y leaders take back the summer with one-hour sessions playing all your classic active favorites safely in the great outdoors.

We are planning to offer these YMCA Summer Programs beginning the week of July 6.

Details on locations and program ages for all summer programs are currently pending.

Additional information for parents

We are in the process of reimagining our dynamic programming to meet the guidelines set out by the BC Provincial Health Minister, which will be available to you prior to your child attending either camp or rec sessions.

Our programming will strive to strike an appropriate balance between the current restrictions and the critical need for children to stay active, maintain a healthy routine, and connect with peers and adult role models. Prior to COVID-19, only 1/3 of children were getting the daily 60 minutes of physical activity required and we suspect this number has drastically decreased. We know that being active in the outdoors decreases stress, boosts mood, prevents anxiety, contributing to a healthier, stronger immune system. It is with these thoughts that the YMCA of Okanagan decided to offer families the choice to have their children involved.

Given the evolving circumstances, protocols may change over time and will be in response to the safety needs of the staff and children.

Stay tuned

We will have more information available by mid-June, when we expect a BC recreation update and pending approval, registration will begin at that time.

Thank you and we hope to see you soon!
